It’s okay if I only do it for a couple of weeks…
MYTH!
There’s always been the rumor floating around that eating disorders can be a form of dieting. That, my friends, is false. An eating disorder is not something you just “try out” to see if you’ll lose weight! Eating disorders are serious illnesses that can lead to serious health problems or death. And even if someone does succeed in losing weight by restricting or purging for a few weeks, the weight will come right back after they return to their normal eating habits. The only way to effectively lose weight and keep that weight off is by healthy eating and regular exercise!

We all know that alcohol has made its place in the holiday season. Eggnog, champagne, wine, you name it—alcohol has become a holiday tradition. And alcohol is great—if you’re at or over your country’s legal drinking age, or with your family. But too much alcohol can make you gain weight like crazy. A drink here and there with dinner is fine, if you’re staying sober, but the calories from alcohol cause a lot of weight gain. The key to staying upbeat this holiday? Avoid alcohol! You’ll be much healthier and happier without it.

Everyone on Tumblr knows that anything with Nutella in it is fantastic. It’s just how life works. Here’s an easy recipe for Nutella mug cake!

INGREDIENTS:
4 tablespoons self-rising flour
4 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons Nutella
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil.
Combine all ingredients in a large coffee mug. Whisk well with a fork until smooth. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 – 3 minutes. Top with whipped cream and/or chocolate sauce if you want that extra sweetness and enjoy! :)

Hey friends! Well, school is eating me alive. As usual. As the end of the semester comes up quicker and quicker, I realize that my work is just kind of piling up and I’m shoving it off because I’d rather spend time with my friends and my boy. Definitely not a good way to act, especially as I’m getting ready to head into college! I’m working on finally getting everything together and being organized so that I can just relax over Christmas break and not worry about the next semester.
On a more positive note, my brother and his wife are coming to our house for Christmas, and guess what they’re bringing with them? A PUPPY! They’re getting a little lab named Penny and bringing her—at only nine weeks old—to our house while they’re here for Christmas :) I can’t even tell you how excited I am. I’ve missed having a dog in my house so much ever since my dog Belle died back when I was fifteen. I’m hoping maybe they’re bringing us one too.. But I know that’s not going to happen. A girl can dream!
I love you all!

So, to be honest, I like Thanksgiving so much better than Christmas. There’s no built-up anticipation of “oh my gosh, what if I didn’t get what I wanted?”, etc., etc. All you have to do is show up, eat till you’re full, and then go into a deep food coma until mid-Friday. It’s perfect.
I have so much to be thankful for. I’m alive, I’m going to college, I live in a nice house, I go to a great school, I have great people in my life, my parents love each other and me. It’s awesome.
I just wanted to take this post to remind y’all that, even in our darkest times, we must remind ourselves what we’re giving up daily by letting our disorders consume us: love. affection. meals. life.
Sometimes, I forget, honestly. I’m trying to remind myself not to take things for granted all the time. So I wrote it on a piece of paper and stuck it next to my mirror, under the sign from my 7 year old cousin that just says “Dear Katy, I love you. Love, Payten.” Even that itself reminds me to be thankful every day that I have a little nugget who loves me and wrote it down (so we know it’s legit.)
I guess I just wanted to remind y’all - American or not - that, even though everything’s hard now and recovering seems so distant - there is something to be thankful for. I don’t know what it is for you, but there’s something. You have something. Let that something be your light at the end of the recovery tunnel. Let that be the light that guides you back to love, good health, and good food.
Happy holidays!
xo, Katy
